Although Montenegro is relatively a new country, it has a lot things that might actually surprise you. It was founded in 2006 with a small border area, it has a lot of beautiful scenery, from mountains to sandy beaches but it also has a lot going on behind the scenes.So here are 7 things you probably didn’t know about Montenegro.
#1 There are 117 beaches in Montenegro
Montenegro has a coastline of 293 km long and all along the coastline you can find the most beautiful beaches. They range from beautiful sandy beaches, pink pebble beaches, stone beaches and if you are lucky you might find some tiny secluded beaches with amazing views. You will be spoilt for choice.
#2 Land of the black mountain
Montenegro is quite well known for being a summer destination but it also has mountain ranges. One of the most famous mountain called the black mountain is also located here. The name black mountain comes from Italian origin.
#3 Brad Pitt’s first movie role was filmed in Kotor
In 1988, Brad Pitt, the famous movie actor started his move career here in Kotor, Montenegro. The movie was called The Dark Side of the Sun was one of his early roles. And he loved it so much that later on in 2010 he said he wanted to show Montenegro to his then wife Angelina Jolie
#4 It’s a bird-watcher’s paradise
It is bird watcher’s paradise. Lake Skadar located in Montenegro is Europe’s biggest bird reserve. It is home to more than 270 species of birds and it servers as important stop for migrating birds.
Due to efforts made to protect the species of birds, it has now become possible to visit by taking a tour boat there. You can expect to see pygmy cormorants, storks, falcons and many more including flamingos.
#5 It has the oldest olive tree in the world
Bar, a southern city of Montenegro has one of the oldest olive trees in the world. The tree is roughly 2000 years old and a symbol of city of Bar. And there are more than 100, 000 trees in Bar that over 1000 years old.
#6 Casino Royale was not filmed in Montenegro
Bond movie from 2006 Casino Royale showed scenes of him and his love interest sipping champagne on a train, gambling in Hotel Splendid’s casino. The thing is none of this was filmed in Montenegro. But it definitely put Montenegro on the tourist map.
All of this filing was done in Czech Republic and Montenegro’s rail network does not serve champagne.
#7 Prince of Montenegro is a fake
His Imperial and Royal Highness Stefan Cernelic has been attending dinners, parties and giving out orders for a while now.
The funny thing is that Montenegro hasn’t had a real price or a royal family since 1918. But that didn’t stop Mr Cernelic from conferring Pamela Anderson with the title of Countess of Giglio in a ceremony in which she actually knelt and thanked the price for his kindness. This happened in 2015.
